Epik High reaches out to English-speaking fans

March 22, 2009

I honestly can’t love a group much more than I love Epik High right now. I mean, Big Bang has a huge chunk of the crazed-fan part of my soul, but it’s rather dormant at the moment because of their inactivity. It was an inevitable occurrence.

Epik High

I have to say what has truly brought about this recent overflow of adoration for Epik High is the way they have been reaching out to their fans. Can anything make a fan happier? They already make solid music, and now they’re doing everything they can to keep the process pure and genuine. They have broken away from their formal label, Woolim Entertainment, and are setting out to sell their upcoming merchandise without the “middle man.” In accordance with this, they are trying to get the word out to their fans, and they are doing so in a way that is very endearing.

It’s heartening for me that they are not only targeting their Korean fans; with this upcoming album, they have made an effort to connect to their English-speaking fans as well. I already thought it was pretty amazing that they went as far as to make YouTube and Twitter accounts, but they’re going above and beyond these internet “tools” that I already frequent so often. They are making their combination book-album bilingual, so more fans can enjoy it. They are making cute video updates to their YouTube (sometimes in English, sometimes in Korean). They are making their site, mapthesoul.com, have both English and Korean. They are planning some international tour dates (as advertised on their Twitter.)

Really, they are beyond cool in my book. To top things off, they made videos directly for English Kpop blogs like Seoulbeats and ALLKPOP. This left my mouth gaping, because I frequent these sites multiple times a day.

It’s really kind of Epik High to consider us. I know that Epik High’s English fanbase is a bit small right now, but I’m sure it will grow more and more. If there is any musical group that I would like to support fully, it would be Epik High. They are not letting themselves get commercialized. They have stayed true to their message throughout the years, even though their sound has evolved. I personally love the journey their music has taken since their debut. There is nothings stagnant about Epik High.

Please support them by buying their book-album! It can only be purchased on mapthesoul.com, which should be up by tomorrow (the 23rd). Epik High’s album comes out on March 31st.
