YG fights plagiarism accusations

Holy smokes, Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment is so bad a**! The company has recently been accused of plagiarizing music produced by SonyATV, who have requested that songs such as G-Dragon’s “Heartbreaker” and “Butterfly,” along with 2NE1’s “I Don’t Care,” to stop promotion (Big Bang’s “With U” has also come under fire). YG’s response to these accusations are hilariously awesome. Check out what Yang Hyun Suk posted on the company’s homepage on the 24th:

“Recently Mariah Carey’s song ‘Standing O’ sounds similar to 2NE1’s ‘In The Club’ released 3 months earlier. There are 8 lines, and 24 seconds that sounds similar, and with the repetition, the total length of the song that sounds similar is up to 1 min. But SonyATV did not say anything about Mariah Carey’s song plagiarizing 2NE1’s song.”

He goes on to say that he and the producers of the songs in question have not even listened to the music they’re supposedly plagiarizing. He ends by saying Teddy and Perry take a lot of pride in their songs and the are greatly offended by the claims SonyATV keeps making.

All I can say is “WOW” because this is such a fantastic reply to all of this stupidness from SonyATV. Hey Sony, NEWS FLASH! You don’t own music. And by YG pointing out that Mariah Carey’s song sounds like 2NE1’s, he’s not claiming that Mariah Carey stole 2NE1’s music. He’s pushing a point: it’s easy for songs to sound similar. YG is defending what needs to be defended.

Netizens are always going on and on about how the latest Korean hit sounds exactly like some other song out there. It’s like a game for them. I like YG’s stance on the issue because it reminds us all that sometimes two people can create similar concepts/ideas independent of each other. Most students can probably recall similar instances in history if they think back hard enough. You’d be surprised about how many times this has occurred; even in science people have come to the same conclusions within days of each other WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF THE OTHER PERSON’S STUDY. Just sayin’.

I may be a huge fan of YG Entertainment, but can’t you agree a little? Forget my bias. This is cool, right? Do you think this was an okay response to plagiarism accusations? You know I do, so tell me why you agree or disagree.

couldn’t agree more. he acknowledges the similarities but patently refutes this idea that his producers knowlingly plagerized anything. this was so wonderfully professional. i loved it.

It was such a long statement that he actually went through thoroughly everything and pwned Sony big time! And 2NE1’s In the Club and Mariah Carey’s Standing O didn’t sound like the same beat to me, it sounded different really.

Yet, we will have to see how this goes actually.

yanghyunsuk seems really stupid. why is he just standing there if mariah carey copied 2ne1’s song? he should do something about it. that’s the problem with korea. they just stand there and do nothing. he should speak out and do something to protect him and his songs.
